Use this guide to determine your HD-TVI Cable Power Distances and IP Power Distances.

PROBLEM: Cameras aren't powering on or video is dropping in and out.

SOLUTIONS: Make sure your cameras are getting the correct amount of power so they can operate properly.

FOR HD-TVI CAMERAS: Determine camera model power requirements by reviewing the spec sheet. Determine output of power supply being used to make sure it delivers the minimum amount of power required for that camera. Volts should match and the power supply should provide at least the amount of amperage needed by camera. It’s OK if it supplies more, the camera will only pull what it needs.

Pro Tip: When using multi-channel power supplies, be aware that the total amperage is divided by the total number of channels/outputs. If you have a 10 amp, 18 channel power supply, each channel will provide .56 amps. You need to make sure the calculated amperage output per channel meets the minimum amperage requirement.

FOR IP CAMERAS: Determine camera model power requirements on the spec sheet. Make sure that the IP camera is getting the correct amount of power, however it is connected to the network – either directly to the recorder or on the LAN.

Recorder PoE: If the camera will be connected via plug-n-play on the back on the NVR with PoE capabilities, power will be supplied to the camera over the Ethernet cable. Make sure you know the NVR PoE power budget and do not exceed that budget when plugging in cameras. Specialty cameras, like PTZs or fisheyes, may consume more power than traditional cameras.

If the camera is connected via LAN, it will require a PoE switch, PoE injector, or a separate 12VDC/24VAC power supply to provide power. If attached to a switch with built-in PoE, observe the same power budget rules as with a recorder.

Pro Tip: The maximum length for Ethernet cable is 328 ft. (100m). Beyond that, power loss occurs. To facilitate cable runs beyond 328 ft., you need to use PoE injectors or PoE extenders that will help maintain power delivery on longer runs.
